This Society is one of the oldest ones catering services to employees of Tata Steel. Mr M. D. Madan, who was also one of our founders, helped to form many other societies, was greatly instrumental in developing education facilities in Jamshedpur. Due to his untiring efforts, the Jamshedpur Co-operative College was established.
The Committee of Management of the Society desired to extend welfare activities of the Society by extending monetary help to members during the time of crisis. Keeping this in mind, a Mutual Benefit Fund was formed in 1952 by which the Society granted monetary benefit to the sick employees, which was later approved by the General Body and departmental head of the Co-operative Societies.
The Tisco Accounts Office Co-operative Credit Society also started a Canteen in General Office premises in 1960. However, due to financial constraints and losses, the running of the Canteen could not sustain and was discontinued finally.
Mr. R. P. Billimoria our then Chairman had done commendable work in the area of Co-operative Societies in Jamshedpur. He helped in launching four Co-operative Societies in Jamshedpur and also established the Jamshedpur Co-operative Flying Club with the help and support from Tata Steel. Mr Billimoria was awarded with a Governor Gold Medal by the then Governor of Bihar, Shri Nityanand Kanungo for the excellent work done by him in the Co-operative Movement in Jamshedpur.
